  • Task 1 - Input Devices Click to see more

The invention of the computer has had a huge impact on our day-to-day lives, and they are now present everywhere - at home, at work and in education.

The way in which we access computers is usually through an Input device

An input device is any piece of computer hardware used to provide data to a computer system.

    Lets try the following tasks:

Tick each task when you have successfully done it in the following list:

    Complete the following tasks

Find 3 different examples of Input devices

    How did you do?

Your examples of input devices could have included:

    • keyboard
    • mouse
    • scanner
    • digital camera
    • webcam

    Lets try the following tasks:

Tick each task when you have successfully done it in the following list:

    Complete the following tasks

Create a New Powerpoint call it'Computer Hardware and Networks'
Add a slide and title it 'Input devices'
Breifly explain what an input device is
Give 3 examples of different input devices
Make sure that you find and image for each device'

Task 3 - Output Devices Click to see more

    Output devices

An output device is any piece of computer hardware used to communicate the results of data that has been processed.

    Summing it all up

Lets look at the learning outcomes and decide which one best describes our current level of understanding :

Tick the one you feel is closest to your level

Learning Outcomes I need to learn how to explain what an input and output device is

    • I have a basic understanding of how I can explain what an input and output device is with a little help from my teacher
    • I can show my teacher that I can explain what an input and output device is without their help.
    • I can explain what an input and output device is independently and I can also explain it to others and can complete any extension tasks I am given.

Task 5 - Processing devices Click to see more

When a computer receives data from an input device (e.g., keyboard), the data goes through an intermediate stage before it's sent to an output device (e.g., monitor). A processing device is any device in a computer that handles the intermediate stage of processing the incoming data.

Some of the most common processing devices in a computer include the following:

    • Central processing unit (CPU)
    • Graphics processing unit (GPU)
    • Motherboard
    • Network card
    • Sound card

    Lets try the following tasks:

Tick each task when you have successfully done it in the following list:

    Complete the following tasks

Add a slide to you powerpoint and title it 'processing devices'
Briefly explain what a processing device is
Give 3 examples of different processing devices
Create a diagram like the one below with your own example of the the input process output system
